A Shoot in Cleveland

When Hollywood filmmakers come to Cleveland to do location shots, Milan Jacovich is hired to babysit the movie industry’s most notorious bad boy, Darren Anderson, the star of the film. When the wild actor is accused of seducing a local 15-year-old girl, Milan quits the job in disgust. But murder isn’t far behind—and Milan is elbow deep in all sorts of things having nothing to do with a Saturday night at the movies.

“A series that gets better and better… strongly recommended for those who like their detectives cut from the classic mold.” (Booklist)

Excerpt: “Keep your nose out of my business,” Maniscalco snarled.

I glanced at Tattoos. To a casual observer he might have seemed almost relaxed, but I knew that inside he was tightly-wound.

“Who’s this?” I asked. “Your business manager?”

Tattoos moved forward a little. Maniscalco backed up a step and put an arm out across Tattoo’s midsection, the way you do when you brake your car quickly and try to keep your passenger from flying through the windshield.

“Take it easy, Albert.”

“Albert?” I said.

Albert imitated a statue for a moment, staring me down boldly, his eyes dark and flat. “I’m gonna be seeing you again,” he said. He snorted deeply, hacked up a lunger and spat it deliberately toward my shoe.

I never knew I could move my feet so fast.
